Gallery Notes

Most recently I am driven by the need to release the past. My paper shapes, some flat, some sculptural, reflect my process of letting go, forgiving and healing. They are an expression of my new found freedom as an emerging young artist with no ties to anyone or anything holding me back. These shapes are free from square frames and rectangles as a symbol of this freedom. I silkscreen shapes in various colors onto paper, overlapping, over printing. I then cut out the shapes, creating new shapes and then pair them together until I am satisfied with the composition and color. Sometimes this is enough, sometimes these shapes are mounted on shapes I cut out of wood or onto drawings and paintings.
The vibrant colors and organic forms reflect my connection to nature.
Nature is a symbol of perfection and oneness. And the strive nature takes to keep itself balanced in this man-made, man-making world is an idea I feel very close to. It is the persistence of nature, the constant effort to balance itself out that is like my need to grow and learn and be free in my mind. I feel like a flower growing through concrete. Although when I bloom is when the real shapes are made. As for now and I hope to inspire the viewer by showing all I dream of true freedom to be.
